Audit Defense

Receiving an IRS audit notice can be terrifying. An IRS audit is an examination of your tax return to verify that the income, deductions, and credits you reported are accurate. The IRS may conduct audits by mail (correspondence audit), at their office (office audit), or at your home, business, or accountant's office (field audit). Anything you say during an audit can be used against you, and the wrong answer—or even the right answer said the wrong way—can trigger additional questions, penalties, or expanded audits.

You have the right to representation. When WNC Tax Resolution represents you in an IRS audit or hearing, you do not have to appear. We handle all communications with the IRS on your behalf, presenting your case professionally and protecting your rights. We review the audit notice and determine what the IRS is examining, gather and organize the documentation needed, prepare responses to IRS questions, represent you in all meetings and hearings, negotiate with the IRS to minimize any additional tax owed, and handle appeals if necessary.

We also represent clients before the NC Department of Revenue and other state tax agencies. State audits can be just as complex and stressful as IRS audits—you need experienced representation. The IRS has teams of auditors and lawyers working against you, so you need someone on your side who understands tax law, IRS procedures, and how to present a compelling case.
